We had a great little stop and learned about the “Costa Rica” Rooftop- This is actually the name given for the mountain area- because all the water runs off each side: Pacific Slope or the Caribbean. The area is called a Cloud Forest, where the altitude varies from 1,000 – 3,000 meters. The Cloud Forest is usually around that 1,000 mark but during the winter it can drop down to 800 meters. One of the plants that we enjoyed taken photos of is the “Poor Man’s Umbrella” – which is a large leaf, which resembles a rhubarb leaf or lily pad (sort of!). This plant actually was used as sandpaper because it is very rough. It also has a symbiotic relationship with Algae that grows INSIDE of it.
wonderful pictures and descriptions
